Emotional Weakness?
Recently I was accused of being too emotional — that being emotional was a weakness. It hurt to hear, but when I flipped it around, I realised it's actually a point of strength. It's allowed me to be more empathetic and understanding. And ultimately, it's become one of my greatest strengths in photography.
This is especially true in one-to-one shoots. Most of my clients aren't models. For many, it's the very first time they've experienced being in front of a camera this way.
My emotional side is what draws out the best in a person — letting them explore a side of themselves they may never have thought possible to show, or allowed to be seen.
Perhaps other forms of photography ask for less emotion. But fortunately for me, the kind of work I love — and the mindfulness behind it — lets me be a storyteller through my images.
And maybe, as a freelancer, my emotions mean I'm not as cut-throat. But as you saw in my previous post, Sticky Wicket, I can still hold my own boundaries.
